How long did PC players wait for past Rockstar games?
Every recent Rockstar open world game launched on consoles first and came to PC later. Here is the gap each time.
| Game | First console launch | PC launch | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 | about 7 months |
| GTA V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | about 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | about 12 months |
Sources: GTA IV, GTA V, Take-Two press release for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.
Two details matter for GTA 6. GTA V's PC version was first planned alongside the PS4 and Xbox One versions in November 2014, then delayed to April 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2's PC version was announced on October 4, 2019, only 32 days before it came out.
How Rockstar announced its last PC versions
| Game | PC announced | Notice before PC launch | PC delays |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | August 6, 2008 | about 4 months | 1 |
| GTA V | June 9, 2014 | about 10 months | 3 |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 4, 2019 | 32 days | 0 |
| Red Dead Redemption | October 2024 | about 3 weeks | 0 |
The two most recent PC announcements came only weeks before release, so the first official GTA 6 PC date may arrive with little warning. Full dates, sources, and the signs that appeared before each announcement are on the Rockstar PC release history page.
Estimated PC window
Rockstar's last three open world games reached PC 7 to 19 months after their first console launch. If GTA 6 lands anywhere in that range, the PC version would arrive sometime between mid 2027 and mid 2028.
Treat this as a rough range, not a prediction. The gap has varied a lot, Rockstar has not said whether it will follow the same approach, and it can announce a different plan at any time. We will update this page when it does.
Where the first real news is likely to show up
- Rockstar Newswire and Rockstar's social accounts. Every past PC version was announced there first.
- Take-Two quarterly earnings calls. This is where the company updates investors on its release plans.
- Age rating boards. Red Dead Redemption 2's PC version was rated in Australia weeks before Rockstar announced it.
- Store listings. A GTA 6 page on the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, or Epic Games Store would be a strong signal. See the GTA 6 Steam tracker.
